Natural textures are all the rage right now in interior design. You could easily head out to your local home goods store and find these natural textures to add to your rooms. But why would you? When you can find natural textures on consignment and thrift for oh-so-much less. And, because most of these shops offer only one-of-a-kinds, your home is not looking just like Mary Jean’s down the street from you. Just consider…

Just What Does Natural Texture Mean?

When we are talking about adding natural textures we are truly talking about natural items, things made from materials found in nature. This encompasses products like rattan and wicker, linen, cotton, wool and leather, as well as driftwood, shells, dried flowers and even live-edge furniture.

Wicker and Rattan: Natural Textures You Can Find on Consignment

Now is the time, ladies and gentlemen. If you crave the natural textures of wicker and rattan (or bamboo and raffia) it’s in season and it’s readily available at all sorts of thrift and consignment shops. Add a bamboo chair in the corner of your guest room or a wicker trunk as a coffee table in the den. However, you’ll want to understand the seasonality of these shops with respect to these items. Don’t go hunting for wicker in December (unless you live in Florida), in other words. Also, if you’re looking for a bargain, these shops will often put wicker, rattan et al on sale at the end of the summer. The pickings might be slimmer, but you’re likely to get a deal.

Linen, Cotton, Wool and Leather Items Are Plentiful at Consignment and Thrift

The soft touch of cotton pillow covers or the look of linen drapes at the window add dimension to your interior design. You can add these natural textures with consignment finds along with a plethora of other cotton, linen and wool items. Look for wool throws to dress up your couch or toss over the corner of a chair. And don’t forget to look down whilst you’re shopping. Wool rugs are a great consignment buy. And cotton and linen tablecloths are bargains too. And let’s not forget leather. Leather furniture is so pricey at regular retail stores, but it’s a relative steal at thrift and consignment. The elegance that it adds makes it worth searching for.

Natural Elements Are A Key Part of Natural Textures

If you really want to bring the natural into your interior design, look at thrift and consignment shops for driftwood, dried flowers and shells. Occasionally you’ll even find live-edge furniture pieces. Adding these items brings a sense of nature and warmth to your rooms.

So keep this in mind the next time one of your rooms needs a refresh: natural textures are easy to find and reasonably-priced on consignment.
