re-sale holiday forecast

I can feel it coming. My friend Katie will be mad that this holiday re-sale forecast “jumps the season.” I know, we aren’t even at Halloween yet and I’m talking about Christmas. This drives her bananas. But savvy shoppers take note. Nabbing these items now will serve you, your home and your wallet well.

Holiday Re-Sale Forecast Rule #1: Shop Early For Christmas Collectibles

If you collect ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING Christmas-related, get thee to a re-sale shop immediately! Most shops have already started to take Christmas items. Be the first to grab things like Dicken’s Village houses, German nutcrackers and Jim Shore Santas. You’ll get the best selection if you shop early, but you’ll want to continue to circle back as they add more inventory and you further your collection.

Old Money/Ralph Lauren Christmas is Hot Again in 2026

Last year, everywhere you looked, you saw Ralph Lauren-inspired Christmas decor. Plaid, brass and gold, lush fabrics in color-rich tones. A real, red and green, old money style Christmas. Well, guess what everybody? Yup. This look is back and stronger than ever. So if you’re going for this aesthetic, consignment and thrift can be your best resource. Look for brass candlesticks, red and green pillows (or pillow forms that you can simply recover and save yourself the expense of the forms). Grab plaid tablecloths and faux evergreens. You’ll spend so much less for this ultra-chic look.

Farmhouse Christmas is Still in Vogue

If you’re going in almost the complete opposite direction with your holiday decor, and the farmhouse look is your vibe, again, get to consignment and thrift shops early. Rusty metal goes fast in these places, as do old wooden bowls, spool candlesticks and white ironstone pitchers. Perhaps look for a distressed child’s chair to place by your fireplace as a seat for a country, stuffed Santa? And patchwork stockings, Buffalo check ribbon and old wooden boxes are always great additions.

And Finally, Grab The Basics Now

If you know you’re in need of a Christmas tree stand, grab one now! You can always find these at thrift and re-sale shops EXCEPT 5 days before Christmas. I can’t tell you how many times someone comes running in, right before we break for the holidays, looking for one. And guess what folks? We are sold out of them by then. Other basics to get-whilst-the-getting-is-good? Tree skirts, ball ornaments, holiday dish towels, Christmas shower curtains and table linens, light sets that are new-in-the-box are all on the shelves already. And the prices are a small percentage of original the retail.

Insider Tip: Consignments Ltd. is loaded with these basics right now. We even have a few tree stands left!

And Now For A Little Music Before We Go… Sorry, Katie
