At seven years old, I was living the dream. My parents, bless their hearts, bought me a canopy bed for my birthday! Seven year old girls all over my town swooned in envy. And it was a double, so I had room for sleepovers under the white, ruffled topper. It had all the thrills of sleeping in a tent without all the bugs and scary sounds. It was a true highlight of my childhood. Years later, when parents asked me to take the same bed to my own home for use, my girls wanted NOTHING to do with that canopy bed. It’s always like that in interior design. Things go in and out of fashion. My girls wanted trundles and even mattresses on the floor, but they definitely didn’t want a canopy bed. But time, as they say, heals all wounds, even superficial ones about bedroom styling. And my seven year old heart sings to write this now: canopy beds are back in style!

Canopy Beds Are Back In Style And Not Just For Little Girls
With the rise in both the GrandmaCore and Quiet Luxury trends, canopy beds are truly having their moments. Once reserved for the bedrooms of little girls, and of antique houses, these beds are showing up everywhere. From the sleek, gray, pencil-post bed with or without a topper to the brown-wood traditional with a fishnet canopy, these beds are being featured in primary suites and guest rooms by all kinds of designers.
Why you might ask are these beds popular again? Well, it’s really about all they can do for these spaces. In the primary, canopy beds add instant drama and romance. Yup! Sign me up for that! In guest rooms, canopies can give guests a sense of privacy and sanctuary. Who doesn’t want their guests to feel that way? Well, I mean if you like your company. In any bedroom, canopy beds also lend a sense of height, which is a great design element. It’s starting to make sense, right?

Canopy Beds Are Back In Style, But You Don’t Have To Pay Full Price
As with most hot trends, the prices for new canopy beds are pretty steep. Bruce and I took a walk through a local furniture retailer last weekend and I almost fainted from sticker shock. But you can have this hot look without a wheel barrow full of cash. Enter shops like Consignments Ltd., where you can buy a gently used canopy bed for so much less than regular retail. And, shocker, the beds there will be made from actual wood, not fancy, souped up laminate and particle board! They’ll be made better and last longer, so you can not pass them on to your kids one day. LOL. Canopy bed shopping at thrift and consignment, here I come.
