Bruce has a framed picture of his grandma, Mary. All around the frame are some of the old clip-on earrings that she used to wear. What a sweet idea! Instead of relegating them to a box or a drawer somewhere, they are right there, shining alongside her smile. This frame makes me think of some of the other creative ideas for old or vintage jewelry that I’ve seen over the years. So I’m sharing some of them with you today. Hope they inspire you to do something with your old pieces.

Creative Ideas For Old Jewelry: Make A New Design

My customer, Holly, makes designs with old jewelry bits and pieces. I give her our leftovers all the time. Her designs focus primarily on Christmas shapes, like Christmas trees and snowmen. But I say, why stop there? Shape old jewelry into a monogram. Cover a frame or even create a one-of-a kind bouquet. It’s all up to you and your imagination. It’s a creative idea for old jewelry that will allow you to enjoy it all the year through.

Or Just Frame Them Up. It’s Another Creative Idea For Old Jewelry

Pieces of old jewelry can truly be miniature works of art. So why not treat them as such and pop them into a frame? Hang them next to your vanity or even in your walk in closet. This option allows you to wear the pieces should the mood strike you.

Or Wear Them In A New Way

It is jewelry, after all. And it was created initially to be worn. So why not wear it? But wear it a different way. Re-imagine an old handbag with lots of vintage pins. Or perhaps create a new-to-you necklace with bits of old pieces, like watches and lockets? Or use several, floral, clip earrings and create a new bib necklace? Go creatively crazy and your jewelry will be a true statement.

Insider Tip: If you don’t have any old, sentimental jewelry hanging around, head to your local thrift or consignment store. Places like Consignments Ltd. are usually loaded with vintage jewelry. And if your going the “frame them up” route, thrift and consignment are also a great resource for vintage and used frames.
