From An Experienced Home Consignment Professional
I’ve owned my home consignment store for the better part of 20 years. I have had over a million customers and sold hundreds of thousands of consignments. Folks bring their things to me and I sell them for them for a commission. This business and that volume has made me into something of a cleaning expert. It’s not that I would EVER accept dirty items, but most things can benefit from a little sprucing up now and then. Over the years we’ve developed a short list of the best cleaning products. They help us in the shop and they can help you on the daily in your home. I feel like Oprah right now, but here it goes… some of my favorite (cleaning) things!
On Top of My Short List of Best Cleaning Products: Murphy’s Multi Use Cleaning Spray
The reason that Murphy’s is on top of my short list of the best cleaning products has nothing to do with the fact that I’m Irish! Although it doesn’t hurt, LOL. I like it because it works really well and you can use it on so many things. It’s label says it’s for wood, and it absolutely works great on wood. But we use this spray to clean a number of hard surfaces including laminate, metal and painted items. It doesn’t leave a residue. And dust and crud don’t stand a chance against it.
Sprayway Glass Cleaner is Definitely on The Short List of Best Cleaning Products
And speaking of no residue, I have never found any glass cleaner to be better than Sprayway. It cleans glass and mirrors like no other. And it leaves nothing behind but shine. If you’ve been to Consignments Ltd. you know very well that we have a HUGE amount of glass. We clean mirrors, framed art, even the inside of glasses with this stuff. Sprayway is the best glass cleaner that I’ve found, and it’s reasonably priced too. To me that’s a win-win.
And My New Favorite: Weiman Silver Wipes
I NEVER thought anything would beat paste silver polish for cleaning sterling and silverplate. Liquids came and went. Fabric cloths with polish embedded have their place, but… And then Holly introduced me to Weiman’s Silver Wipes! OMG. These things rock! Not only do they make light work of tarnish on jewelry, but you can clean four sets of flatware with one wipe. Additionally, I like the fact that you can put a partially used wipe back in the container (where it will stay moist) and use it again and again until it is used up. If you have silver, you need these.
Here’s my live demonstration of how these Weiman Silver Wipes work…
