It’s almost here! My favorite time of year. I can almost smell the pumpkin spice lattes. The air will get crisp. The nights will be cool. Leaves will change and so will my decor. Yeah! Those of you who have followed me for awhile know that I don’t need an excuse to change my house around. This Fall I will be starting right smack in the middle of my kitchen table. And I’ll create a Fall centerpiece with thrift items. You can do it too, because thrift and consignment shops are rife with so many of the things you’ll need.
Create a Fall Centerpiece with Thrift Trays and Lazy Susans
If you’re going to make a centerpiece, it’s going to need a base. And I can’t think of a better base than a tray except maybe a lazy Susan. Consignment and thrift are PERFECT places to buy both trays and lazy Susans. By-the-way: why is Susan lazy? but I digress. Trays and lazy Susans are perfect for a centerpiece base because you can whisk them away in one fell swoop when you need to clear the table for activity and eating. Use them as a start for your centerpiece and then add other Fall elements.
Vintage Boxes, Baskets and Bowls Can Also Help You Create A Fall Centerpiece
And speaking of bases, how about vintage boxes, baskets and bowls. They work the same way as trays and lazy Susans when it comes to whisking them away. They add unique personality to your arrangement, as well. Fill them with Fall colored flowers, pumpkins and gourds. Most consignment and thrift shops will be loaded with these babies. And your arrangement will be one-of-a-kind.
Create a Fall Centerpiece with Thrift Candles
If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a million times, candles are a consignment shop best buy (see my previous blog: Consignment Shop Best Buys: The Rest). And Fall is a perfect season for all kinds of candles, from scented jars, to tapers and battery-operated numbers. Most centerpieces will be improved by adding the light of a candle, or multiple candles. Candlesticks, pillar holders and votive containers are also abundant at consignment and thrift. Think warm fall tones in the colors of the changing leaves.

And Don’t Forget Fall-Tone and Vintage Linens
Drape a plaid, linen dish towel across your tray and build your centerpiece from there. Line a bowl with a rust-tone placeat before filling it with gourds and pumpkins. Table linens (both vintage and newer ones) can add a lot of dimension and color to your centerpiece for a limited amount of cash. And if you’re lucky enough to find a vintage tablecloth whilst your there, dress the table with it before placing your centerpiece.
Insider Tip #1: Shops, like Consignments Ltd., are great resources for all these items and often are a great place to score pre-made Fall centerpieces too!
Insider Tip #2: Don’t want the hassle of real gourds and pumpkins? The Dollar Tree Stores are a great place to find faux pumpkins and gourds that you can use year after year. They even have scarecrows! LOL. Pro Tip: You can get free shipping to your local Dollar Tree store when you shop online! Visit them here.
And Now For A Little Music Before We Go…
Have a lovely day, my friends. Marianne
