Right this minute is one of my daughter Libby’s favorite times to buy one of her favorite things. You see, she’s a big lover of the Dunkin’ pumpkin latte (iced, of course, as she is a true Rhode Islander, even though she lives in Texas). She has to get them in now, whilst it’s the season, because they only sell these babies for a short time. Consignment shopping is sometimes the same way. Certain items are only available during certain times. Other items are just better buys at certain times. So here’s my quick list of the best times to buy 10 common consignment items. Happy shopping…
Fall is The Best Time to Buy These Consignment Items
As the air cools and people begin spending more time inside their homes, candles come into play again. And as I’ve said before, jar candles and tapers are a consignment shopping best buy. And while we are on the topic of things you burn, in Autumn you’ll definitely want to be looking for fireplace tools, screens and andirons. A lot of shops won’t carry them any other time.
China tableware is a consignment best buy throughout the year, but with holiday entertaining on the horizon, you guessed it. Buy china in the Fall and get great use of it before the year’s out.
Fall is also a great time to get a jump on Christmas items. At Consignments Ltd. We start taking Christmas decor on September 1st! So if you start looking then you’re likely to score some great stuff.
Winter Blues? No Way
As the calendar turns to Winter, put your bargain hunting hat on because consignment shops will be putting those Christmas items on clearance and you can score some great stuff at up to half off the consignment price. Often you can even get them before Christmas actually happens.
Winter is also a great time to buy planters and cache pots. Whether you’re re-potting those house plants that have grown too big for their britches or starting seeds for the upcoming growing season, you’ll be glad to snatch them up.
Spring Into Action! It’s The Best Time to Buy These Consignment Items
If you are looking for outdoor furniture for Summer, Spring is actually the best time to start shopping consignment stores for it. As soon as daytime temperatures are over 50 degrees, shops will be dragging out these pieces to tease their customers about the coming of nicer weather. Go to your local shops often for best selection. China tableware also has its second wave in Spring for Easter, bridal showers and weddings.
It’s Sum, Sum, Summertime
Ah… the warm temperatures. The sand between your toes. And ALL that company. You need all kinds of beach-related products, like towels, umbrellas and sand chairs. They are abundant at consignment shops in summer. Just remember my previous warnings in What Not to Buy on Consignment and stick to towels that are new-with-the-tags.
For your entertainment needs, Summer is the perfect time to buy all types of melamine (plastic) dishware for all those nights on the patio. And for the company that comes and stays, be sure to grab some baskets for making the guest room oh-so-cozy (see my previous blog on guest-rooms).
