Vases For All Those Beautiful Flowers Are Best Consignment and Thrift Buys For Spring

Our irises are going a little crazy as I’m writing this. They are so beautiful, looking out our kitchen window, but I long to bring them into the kitchen, the dining room, the den. Lots of vases for lots of irises. And the best place to score them, you guessed it, thrift and consignment stores. Shops like Consignments Ltd. are rife with vases of all shapes, colors and sizes. You can bring in flowers to your heart’s content with the great selection and great prices of these vases. So get out the shears. Cut those irises and fill those consignment vases all over your house!

Best Consignment and Thrift Buys For Spring: Planters and Cachepots

And now that the weather is warmer, you’re probably thinking about potting some annuals on your front porch, your patio or your deck. Recently, I went shopping at a local garden center for a planter for my front steps and almost fell over dead at the prices of these receptacles. I’ll take thrift and consignment for these puppies any day of the week. Thrift and consignment shops have tons of reasonably priced planters and cachepots. And in case you’re wondering what the difference is between a planter and a cachepot, it’s super simple:  A planter is a pot for a plant that has has a drain hole. A cachepot is a French term for a planter that has no hole. Each has its unique uses.

Garden Ornaments and Outdoor Lanterns Too

When my daughter, Libby was born, my friend Mary gave me the most adorable garden statue of a little girl, holding onto the edges of her billowy skirt (see above). I treasure it and have taken it from house to house, wherever I have lived since. These types of ornaments, along with rusty metal pieces (like the wheel barrow wheel above) and old farm implements, can really anchor your outdoor living spaces and gardens. They are readily available at thrift and consignment stores.

Outdoor lanterns provide great structural elements in your outdoor spaces and gardens. And they have the added benefit of adding light at night. Lanterns, whether solar, battery-powered or filled with candles, are among the best consignment and thrift buys this spring. Go ahead, light up your life.
