I’m so sad to say it, ladies and gentlemen, but the summer is officially over. And now that your weekends aren’t fully consumed sitting the pool or relaxing in your beach chair, it’s a great time to schedule an appointment with your dermatologist or your MD for a skin check. You and your health are among the best reasons to schedule a skin check and here’s why…
Skin Cancer Detection is the BEST Reason to Get a Skin Check
My Mom has had skin cancer multiple times, including three instances of melanoma. She has really fair skin and had many serious sunburns as a kid. Her cancers, which she has survived, were most likely caused by her time in the sun (she also has a family history). Sun exposure is one of the primary causes of skin cancer. That being said, even skin that is not exposed to the sun can end up having skin cancer. So why not have a skin professional take a quick look? Or start with your primary care doctor and she can help you navigate to a skin professional if necessary? According to The Mayo Clinic, “Early detection of skin cancer gives you the greatest chance for successful skin cancer treatment.” Get a skin check and breathe easier for the rest of the year.

Skin Cancer PREVENTION: Another Great Reason For A Skin Check
Because of my Mom’s skin cancer history, I have been getting skin checks most of my adult life. I am also very careful in the sun and sun block is my best friend. That’s why, when my kids entered their teen years, I didn’t think it could hurt to have them adopt this routine as well. I was really shocked, however, when two of my three children had to have nevus moles removed. They had been born with these moles, but the type that each of them had could become cancer in the future. Our doctor advised “remove the mole and remove the risk.” At a skin check the doctor can assess any types of moles that you may have and advise you accordingly.
Other Skin Conditions Can Also Be Found At A Skin Check
Although skin cancer detection and prevention are the best reasons to get a skin check, there are a number of other conditions that a qualified dermatologist can detect. These include ailments such as eczema, rosacea and psoriasis. A doctor can also detect fungal or bacterial skin infections. These conditions can be caused by autoimmune disorders, certain environmental conditions, and even topical irritants. Most are treatable, and are great reasons to get a skin check. It’s easy and quick. Make that call today!
