Floral Upholstery Is Trending

November 11, 2025

But To Floral or Not to Floral, That Is The Question!

Floral upholstery trend

I have a secret, professional crush on Erin Napier. But I guess it’s not so secret any more. LOL. Erin is an adorable human and a design goddess, who started her career and decorating rise renovating old homes in Laurel, Mississippi. She now not only has her own HGTV series with her husband, Ben, but is a published author, retailer and even has her own furniture, wallpaper and candle lines. I like her personality, drive and relationship (real or imagined) with her husband. I don’t always agree with her design-wise, as I’m a coastal gal, but I share her love of old homes and admire the joy she gives her clients with her designs. In a recent House Beautiful article, she suggests that floral upholstery is trending. Oh, Erin, we need to talk…

Floral Upholstery Trend: How Do You Know If It’s For You?

When interior designers with big followings speak about trends, people listen with their pocketbooks. Erin Napier is no different. When she says that the floral upholstery trend is on the rise, and follows it up with a line of upholstered furniture it’s real. Her furniture is beautiful and the colors are grand. The key here is to figure out if floral upholstery is for you before ou jump in. I’d say, ask yourself a few key questions before diving headlong into this trend. You’ll know you may want to try the floral upholstery trend if you answer yes to one or more of the following:

  • Do I enjoy bringing fresh cut flowers into my home on a regular basis?
  • Do I like pastel tones, even in small amounts, in my home or in my clothing?
  • And do non-solid fabrics have appeal to me?

How to Incorporate The Floral Upholstery Trend

If you answered yes to any of these questions, the floral upholstery trend should be on your radar. As a simple refresh or a major over-haul, the look has appeal to you, so you owe it to yourself to explore it. But how?

With anything trending in interior design, I always think that starting small is best. Yes, you could buy a floral couch tomorrow. And if you LOVE this trend with capital letters, get thee to a furniture store immediately. But if you’re like most folks I know, who are a little unsure of where this one is gong, you may want to start small. Consider things like…

How to Incorporate The Floral Upholstery Trend in Small Ways:

  • Instead of a couch, perhaps try adding an accent chair in a lovely floral in your living room or bedroom.
  • Incorporate florals into fabrics like pillows and throws in the den or bedspreads and curtains in the guest room.
  • Add wallpaper (maybe even an Erin Napier design) on an accent wall in the bedroom, in a small, half bath or above a chair rail in the dining room.
  • Add a floral sofa cover to your couch.
  • Or try adding florals in the art on your walls.

These easy ways are far less expensive than buying into the full floral look. Then, if you’re loving it, add that floral sofa down the road. It’s a great way to follow the floral upholstery trend in stages. And change your mind if it just isn’t working. Hope that you’re not too mad at me, Erin.

Insider Tip: Consignment and thrift stores, like Consignments Ltd., are great resources for florals. If you’re considering this trend, get there, right quick.
