Going Out of Season Items
Just as it is with regular retail shops, Fall is a good time to buy items that are going out of season. In Fall these shops will mark down things like:
- Wicker
- Teak
- Other Outdoor Patio Furniture Like Wrought Iron
- Patio Umbrellas
- Outdoor Cushions
- Beach Towels (stick to new with the tags on these)
Secondhand Holiday Items
Because thrift and consignment shops have to “compete” for their customers, these shops will generally start taking Fall decor items in late summer and Christmas items right after Labor Day. Due to this fact, Fall is a great time to refresh your Fall look or get ready for a new holiday feeling. Search for:
- Holiday Wreaths
- Faux Pumpkins and Gourds
- Holiday Table Linens
- Scented Candles
- Holiday Dinnerware

Fall Is A Good Time To Buy Sets of China at Thrift and Consignment
I have always maintained that china is a consignment best buy. (See: Consignment Shop Best Buy’s). Well, Fall is a great time to buy china sets in preparation for Thanksgiving and other Winter holidays. Most shops, like Consignments Ltd., sell china in sets. This results in massive savings over the traditional pay-per-placesetting that regular retail charges. In a lot of instances you can get a complete set of china for under $100.
