What Your Favorite Thrift Aisle Says About You

Thrift and consignment shops , at least the good ones, have their own way of organizing their merchandise. Aisles or areas where they keep like items helps customers find what they are searching for and stay away from things that don’t interest them. Aisles and areas also give staff direction when stocking new items. But did you ever consider what your favorite thrift aisle says about you?

The Entertainer

They say that you never know how many friends you have until you own a home by the water. I see this prevailing truth every day in my shop in Wakefield, RI (consignmentsltd.com). The customers who head straight to our glassware and dishes areas have a lot of friends. And because these things break… you guessed it. These are their favorite aisles. Plus, new things, and by that I mean new cocktails, come out on the daily, and one just has to have that coupe glass to show it off right. Entertainers also love the linen aisle for scoring those vintage table cloths and mats that make their parties like no one else’s on the block. (Set Your Summer Table With Vintage Finds).

The Historian

My customer, Chip, is a scientist, but he has a passion for history. He regularly buys the vintage kitchen gadgets that we carry and this aisle, therefor, appeals to him. My friend, Jill, lives in a historic reproduction Cape Cod house. She fills it with period crockery, firkins and textiles. Her favorite thrift aisles always revolve around achieving this historic look for the treasure that is her home.

The Reader

Whether they are perusing the candle aisle for a cozy scent for their tub deck or the linen section for a luxurious throw to snuggle up with on their chaise, you can always tell the readers (and bathtub readers) by their favorite thrift aisle. And what it says about them is that reading is their passion and thrifting helps them make it even more enjoyable.

It’s The Christmas Aisles For Me

As for me, I live in an old farmhouse. The property came with a barn, which you would think would be cool, right? But in actuality, I couldn’t even begin to imagine a use for it when we moved in. I mean, maybe we would store some totes in there and a few gardening tools. I never consider that part of the barn would actually become a place of shear bliss for me and would have me heading to my favorite thrift aisle way more than usual. You see, at the suggestion of my daughter Charlotte, I have turned the upstairs of my barn into Holiday Hayloft, where it’s Christmas 24/7/365. So every chance I get and every time I thrift, you’ll find me in my favorite aisle: Christmas.

So what does your favorite thrift aisle say about you? I’d love to know. Drop me a line at consignmentslimited@gmail.com. Thanks to all the folks who told me about the secondhand buys I didn’t make and still regret. Makes me feel like I’m in good company. And if you think someone you know would like this blog, please feel free to share it via email, Facebook or LinkedIn with the buttons I’ve included below.

Have a wonderful day, my friends. Marianne
