Well, it’s Christmas party season again and you know what that means… Secret Santa. And whether you call it Yankee Swap, White Elephant, Secret Casino or plain, old Secret Santa, it’s a crazy, hilarity-filled gift swap. You may not think of this when you’re invited, but one of the best places to buy Secret Santa gifts is thrift and consignment shops. Yes, that’s right. You heard it here first folks… thrift and consignment. Read on for what I mean by this…

Scarves, Mittens and Cozy Socks Make Great Secret Santa Gifts From Thrift and Consignment

One year, the ladies of my book club almost came to fisticuffs over a tremendously ugly pair of cozy socks. Yup. Bright red ones with green bows all over them. Despite the near bloodshed, I was fairly exited about this phenomenon because the socks were brought into the fray, via my local thrift store, by yours truly. I had to laugh that this was all coming about from the $2.99 I spent on these new-in-the-package socks. The spend maximum for the party had been $10 and other gifts (like the $9.99 bottle of oh-so-awful wine and the .99 cents deck of playing cards) paled in comparison to my $3 socks. What I’m saying is that thrift and consignment shops are great resources for new items, like socks, mittens and scarves, that make great Secret Santa gifts.

Cocktails Anyone?

I can’t keep coupe cocktail glasses in Consignments Ltd., my brick-and-mortar consignment shop. So just think about the reaction you’ll get bringing them to the Secret Santa. Or perhaps it’s a set of four, mid-century modern rocks glasses you wrap up this year? A cocktail shaker? Who wouldn’t fight for a new one of these? On the cocktail theme, thrift and consignment shops are rife with ideas.

Christmas Decorations Make Perfect Secret Santa Gifts From Thrift and Consignment

A little stuffed snowman, perfect for that spot on your fireplace? Or perhaps a large serving bowl, with a Christmas tree theme? Maybe it’s a vintage Santa planter (that you can fill with Hersey’s holiday kisses) ? Any of these items make the Secret Santa most-desired list. While I’d hate to see you repeat the book club melee of a few years back (actually, not really), I’d love to know that you found something unique. And the fact that they fought for what you brought is just the icing on the Christmas cookie.

So if you need a Secret Santa gift this season, check out your local thrift and consignment shops. They are wonderful resources for these parties and your contribution will be unlike anyone else’s. S.C.O.R.E!

Have a lovely Sunday, my friends. Marianne
