So if you’re working remotely, like Bruce, or you’re just attending an event with people you are not familiar with, how do you get to know a person? Icebreaker questions, that have traditionally been used at seminars and corporate functions, are great ways to break through the awkward and establish a repport. Just consider…

Ask The Unexpected. It’s a Great Icebreaker Question

I’ve always liked the game Two Truths and a Lie. You say three things about yourself, but only two of them are true. People are left to guess which is which. In my case I usually say, “I have met the following famous people: Charlton Heston (TRUE), JFK Jr. (TRUE) and Shemar Moore (Oh, how I wish!).” This is a great icebreaker question that’s related: Have you ever met anyone famous? or Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever met? Then sit back and hear the stories of where they were and how they met said person. It establishes intimacy quickly and in a non-threatening way.
